Verification and validation is an integral part of simulation. Wherever possible, experimental data and manufacturers data is used to develop and qualify components of the simulation model.
At the low level manufactures drawings are used to accurately establish connection points and validate the kinematic motion of undercarriage components.
Manufactures data is also used to develop tyre and oleo stiffness and damping functions.
At the subassembly level standalone simulated drop tests are performed to validate the response of the undercarriage against drop test data for a range of descent rate, attitude and loading conditions.
Where correlation is inadequate, optimisation is used tune the model.
The complete model is then subjected to numerous tests to verify that all components have been successfully complete integrated. These include drop tests, tilt table tests, sliding and toppling tests, wind load and gyroscopic tests, lashing and where applicable Decklock or RAST tests.
